Hi friends! It's come to my attention that I don't have ANY sauce recipes up on my blog! Which is crazy since I LOVE sauces! They're such a great way to fancy up a meal and add an extra punch of flavor. So, I thought it only appropriate that I share my favorite sauce recipe with you. Hollandaise sauce!
Although it's my favorite, it's not a sauce I used to make much. The reason? Standing in front of the stove and whisking it is SO time consuming.
However, a few months age my hubby and I were out to dinner and the waitress starting telling me that her favorite way to make hollandiase sauce was in the blender! I had never heard of this technique but was instantly intrigued. I'm ALL about easy shortcuts in the kitchen! So, let's get to it.
What is hollandaise sauce?
It's a creamy, emulsified sauce traditionally made up of egg yolks, butter, lemon juice, and salt. For a little added kick, I like to add a bit of Dijon mustard and the tinniest pinch of cayenne pepper to mine. This stuff is rich, creamy, and instantly elevates any meal!
How is hollandaise sauce made?
There are two ways you can make it. The first is by using a double boiler over the stove and whisking until you think your arm is going to fall off!
The second way is to use your trusty blender! This is seriously going to be the easiest hollandaise sauce you've ever made! Start by melting the butter in the microwave. Place the egg yolks, lemon juice, salt, mustard, and cayanne pepper in the blender jar. Blend for about 10 seconds. Then, with the blender still running, slowly pour in the hot butter in a steady stream.
You should see the sauce thicken while the butter is being poured. And that my friends, is how to make a quick hollandiase sauce!
Can I make hollandaise sauce in advance?
You can make the sauce a day in advance but it really does taste best when made fresh.
If you must make it in advance though, simply store in the refrigerator. Once you're ready to serve it, set the bowl of hollandaise in a pot filled with warm water until the sauce is warm to the touch.
Alteranatively, you can warm it in the microwave in 10 second increments until warm.
What does hollandaise sauce go with?
Everything! Haha! Ok, not everything, but a lot. Serve this luscious sauce with steamed asparagus, poached or fried eggs, eggs benedict, roasted chicken, steak, or salmon!
Hope you enjoy!
